Operational
Structure
What
is the purpose of the organization? In its simplest form we
want to reduce dependency of families on the government. We
believe reduced government dependency is healthy for society.
How
does the organization work? Families for the Future is committed
to providing the greatest service at the lowest overhead possible.
We are structured to operate at less than 10% overhead with
a target of a remarkable 5%. We do this by use of technology
and a shift in the perception of charitable service. The service
we provide is focused on providing the opportunity for families
to expand their support network. Who better to identify supporters
for the organization than those receiving the benefit? We
consider this organization to be a partnership between donors,
recipients, and us.
Why
do you prefer to only accept General Donations in the mail? First to
insure low overhead we have attempted to integrate as much
as possible transactions into our automated system. Second
as described in the FAQ legal section we have placed restrictions
on certain types of donations, by using the web page we insure
our process is followed. NOTE: We greatly appreciate when
large general donations are mailed, it reduces much of the
electronic transaction cost.
Message
Board
Why
e-mail passwords for the Message Board? The Message Board
is designed to give families a means to communicate ideas
and thoughts with other members. By e-mailing passwords our
organization can maintain some degree of control and security
over the individuals utilizing the service. If it were deemed
necessary to remove a member for inappropriate behavior, we
would invalidate the password and deny future password issuing
to that e-mail address. We feel it is a simple and a reasonably
effective method of control.
Why
do you ask for our state and zip code? That information is
voluntary and not required for utilization of the message
board. We simply would like to know how our service is growing
if you don't mind telling us.
Explain
the internal e-mail function on the Message Board. We wanted
to provide a way for members who choose, to have the ability
to receive e-mails from other members. Neither the sender
nor the receiver will have access to the actual e-mail addresses.
Thus if a person was ever removed from the Message Board service
they would not have access to other members e-mail addresses.
The reply function is not designed to operate. If the original
sender desires a reply they must post a message and have the
"receive internal e-mails" function activated on
their account.
Legal
Issues
What
does requested preference mean? Simply it means that our organization
controls the disbursement of all donations. This is a legal
requirement. If the donor requested preference were given
to an individual who meets the organizational criteria, Families
for the Future intends to honor that request to the greatest
extent possible. Our web site only lists individuals who have
meet the organizational criteria and are thus available for
donors to request preference towards.
Why would Families for
the Future not honor a donators request that funds being
donated be applied in a particular manner? Generally
Families for the Future will do everything possible to honor
the request of our donors. Examples of why a request may be
denied is that the recipient status may have recently changed
and is no longer eligible to receive funds (IE a student is
not longer enrolled in a school, or the unfortunate situation
that an elderly recipient has passed away). Under these circumstances
the funds are then utilized for other request. (Refunded funds
from organizations are also utilized in this same manner).
What
is a Quid Pro Quo? Simply a "this for that" arrangement.
Families for the Future has gone to great effort to ensure
unauthorized Quid Pro Quo arrangements do not exist within
the organization. Although a quid pro quo arrangement may
not exist when a person receiving donated funds makes a sponsored
donation, we determined that to avoid the appearance of a
quid pro quo we would only allow recipients of funds to make
group or general donations. If a person arranges a quid pro
quo outside the organization, that arrangement would invalidate
the tax-exempt status of any funds donated by any party involved.
Feel free to contact Families for
the Future
today by using any of these methods.
